Brian Williams joined NBC News in 1993 and was quickly groomed to be the next anchor of NBC Nightly News. At first he was named White House correspondent. When MSNBC launched in 1996, Williams was given his own daily hour-long news program called The News with Brian Williams. It was a way for the audience to get comfortable with Williams in the top position. The News had graphics which resembled those of Nightly News at the time. And the voice-over was Fred Facey, who along with Howard Reig was one of the two main announcers at NBC News.
