For many years, this was the sounder used to introduce the hourly news update from CBS News. It was composed by Eric Siday and his company Identitones. Siday was a spectacularly successful pioneer in creating electronic sound logos. An early and famous example is the Maxwell House percolating coffee pot. It formed a contrast to the countless supposedly catchy but quickly tiring jingles that were on the air at the time. An added benefit: they were cheaper to produce because they didn’t require live musicians and residuals did not have to be paid to singers.
“CBS Radio News” 1969 – 2001 Sounder

Always thought CBS theme music was the best. From NCAA March Madness College Basketball theme on TV. To the CBS Radio News on the hour both still in use with modernization. Also wish CBS Sports would bring back the sounder intro theme used late 60s to at least at latter part of the last century. Remember Sports Central USA It’s Sports Time and more.
Many memories of Sports Central USA and MLB Baseball coverage on CBS radio
I always remember traveling between San Diego and Long Beach to visit my grandparents – in the family car. We always listened to KNX or KFMB and on Saturdays you were guaranteed to hear the CBS sports sounder and scores of all the college football games. Great memories
I can remember listening to WCAO AM out of Baltimore, MD growing up on Virginia’s Eastern Shore back in the 70’s. I remember the news sounder like it was yesterday.
